Japanese government lifts COVID restrictions for live events, allows cheering at venues a day ahead of Hoshimachi Suisei's 2nd Live Concert
For those who attended the live stream for Hoshimachi Suisei's 2nd live concert “Shout in Crisis”, you may have noticed the lively energy and engagement from the crowd. Fans were chanting, screaming, and singing along with Suisei's original songs. Surprisingly, this was made possible just a day before the start of the concert.
But how did this come about?
After three years of strict COVID measures, various regulations were put in place for public spaces and gatherings, one of which limited chanting and cheering at venues.
The rules would allow cheering and shouting, but only when the venue is below 50% capacity.
“Shout in Crisis” was hosted in Tokyo Garden Theater, accommodating approximately 8000 people. The concert was anticipated to be at 100% full capacity since general sales sold out almost immediately after release. Rules of course were expected to be followed and no shouting or vocal cheering would be allowed at this event.

However, on January 26th, it was announced that the Japanese government was planning to adjust its restrictions for events like live concerts. Attendees would still be required to wear masks, but they would be able to cheer and shout in the venue regardless of attendance capacity!
The decision was to be made on the 27th, and if it passed, it would take effect immediately.
And passed it did!
Suisei tweeted about the news prior to the concert, which brought joy to fans who were attending in person.
Talk about perfect timing! Since the start of the pandemic, this was the first live concert in Japan where Suisei could actively hear the audience, so the news was a thrill for both Suisei and the fans.
If this decision remains in place for the hololive 4th Fes. "Our Bright Parade," audience engagement will also be allowed, making it an even more highly anticipated event!
We’ll have to wait and see until the start of the concert on March 18th. But here’s to hoping and anticipating!
