Hoshimachi Suisei becomes the first VTuber to appear on THE FIRST TAKE, bringing VTubers one step closer to mainstream

On January 20th, 2023, Hololive JP's Hoshimachi Suisei performed on THE FIRST TAKE for the first time, opting to sing "Stellar Stellar," the lead track from her album "Still Still Stellar". The performance features a special acoustic arrangement, played by TAKU INOUE (producer of "Stellar Stellar") on guitar and Nagayama-san on piano.

It was an absolutely stunning performance.

As the name of the program suggests, artists who perform on the channel have only one take to perform anything they'd like. A song like "Stellar Stellar" is already challenging to sing as is, so for Suisei to perform it in one take is phenomenal.

Dubbed one of Japan's most influential music media outlets, with over 7 million subscribers on YouTube, THE FIRST TAKE has hosted performances by various artists in the past, including big-name Japanese artists like LiSA, YOASOBI, ClariS, K-pop band Stray Kids, and even Western artists like Harry Styles and Avril Lavigne.

Suisei's performance is the first for a VTuber on the music media outlet owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan.

The studio space setup is quite interesting, as Suisei performs in her 3D model in the physical studio. However, the setup works seamlessly, syncing the virtual and physical worlds into one.

This is a big step forward for VTubing towards the mainstream. It will be interesting to see how things develop going forward, but VTuber fans may have more to look forward to as VTubers inch closer and closer to the mainstream stage.

In addition to THE FIRST TAKE, fans can also look forward to Suisei's second album "SPECTER", set to release on January 25, 2023 JST. But that’s not all, as Suisei will host her second solo concert "Shout in Crisis" on January 28, 2023, at the Tokyo Garden Theater. More information on purchasing streaming tickets for the solo live can be found here.
