Beyond the Stars: Interviewing IRyS on Her First Solo Concert, DANGERyS, and Her Journey in hololive

The talents are the heart of hololive. Behind every stream, song, and concert are the VTubers who made hololive what it was, who make it what it is, and who will shape it into what it can be. Whether it’s our oshis, our favorite duos, generations, and units, or all of them as daredemo daisuki (DD), we support these virtual creators in our own special ways.

So far, our Interview series has celebrated the fans and creators of the hololive community. For our ninth guest, and our first talent guest, we’re going straight to the source. We’re honored to welcome none other than IRyS from -Promise-!

From debuting as hololive English’s “Project: HOPE”, to informally joining Council as part of “CouncilRyS”, to officially combining the groups as part of hololive English -Promise-, IRyS has had quite the journey.

In the interview, she shares a bit more behind the scenes involving her concert, “HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars”, as well as her new album DANGERyS.

Her First Solo Concert “HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars” and DANGERyS

hololive TODAY / hT:
Welcome, IRyS! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to interview with us at hololive TODAY.

You’re our ninth guest in this interview series, and our first hololive talent guest on the program!

With your first full-length solo concert “HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars” on the horizon and DANGERyS out now on streaming services, I’m glad to have you here to talk about it all!

IRyS:
Thank you for having me!

hT:
Let’s speed right into it!

You’ve got quite the journey going into Eurobeat:

  • Recommended Eurobeat by Ninomae Ina’nis during a horror game of all places

  • Got into Initial D through playlists on YouTube then the anime itself

  • Released “Carbonated Love” and eventually “Diamond Girlfriend” with Motsu, who performed opening and ending themes for Initial D

  • Collaborated with Asphalt Legends on “Escalate”

  • And now recently released DANGERyS with so many Eurobeat bangers, even getting to work with the legendary Eurobeat producer himself, Dave Rodgers, on “My car is in danger”

Looking back at the whole road you took getting into Eurobeat, what does that journey mean to you?

IRyS:
It’s honestly kinda crazy looking back at it, because I never expected Eurobeat to become such a big part of my music. It really just started with Ina recommending it to me during a random call-in horror game stream and I’m so happy that such a coincidence occurred.

I think what makes it really special to me is that none of this was something I planned from the beginning. It was just a genre I genuinely gained interest in and learned to love.

So being able to turn such a thing I discovered almost by accident into such a big part of my own music feels surreal and I’m really grateful that everyone’s been enjoying that journey with me too!

hT:
Beyond just your album, a lot of your recent songs lean into high-energy Eurobeat.

We’ve already seen some of the choreography for “MUSE” and “Diamond Girlfriend” in your MVs and 3D shows, “BE MY FLAME” during Serendipity, and we’re excited to see how songs like “My car is in danger” and “Unspoken” will be performed live.

What has rehearsal been like preparing for a potential setlist this physically intense?

IRyS:
It has been really tiring to say the least. For this last month of preparation, I’ve been going to dance lessons almost three times a week, and I have to say, the hardest part has been remembering all of the choreo.

The potential setlist I have for the sololive is very long and I’ve never had to perform this many songs mostly by myself back-to-back before. So building stamina has been one of my biggest goals going into this live. I’m SO GLAD I started personal training beforehand!

hT:
“HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars” is your first ever full-length solo concert. Even with the amazing guests you have lined up, inviting Motsu and Shiranui Flare to share the stage, the whole rest of the show is yours.

Has the pressure of that hit differently than anything you’ve done before?

IRyS:
I am currently going through an immense amount of pressure from this solo live. Knowing that people are traveling from all over the world just to see me is pressure that I’ve never dealt with before.

I can literally feel my whole body tensing up as the day of the live draws nearer. Whenever staff or anyone reminds me that the live is happening soon, I can feel my nerves kicking in and I start to panic a little!

But I do believe that handling this pressure and, hopefully, having a successful live will help me grow as a person and as a performer! And despite all the pressure, I’m still having a lot of fun with the preparations, and more than anything, I’m incredibly excited to put on an amazing concert together with my fans!

hT:
Leaving their thoughts on your album in the #DANGERyS tag on X, fans like @happy__yorkie and @oveRayster pointed out that “Escalate” sounded a little different on the album compared to the original single. Something about the mixing felt adjusted, the vocals being more pronounced, but all in a good way.

Was “Escalate” actually remastered for DANGERyS, or are we just imagining it?

IRyS:
What a catch!

Yes, “Escalate” has been remastered specifically for the album. Since all the tracks on an album are mastered together to give the whole thing a more cohesive sound, we gave “Escalate” a fresh master to make sure it fit in seamlessly with all the new songs and tracks in DANGERyS.

hT:
Continuing on fan thoughts on #DANGERyS, @ZEiM0906 pointed out that “Why do we stay?” and “Because of You”, back to back, almost read like a question and its answer.

Q: Why do we stay?
A: It’s because of you.

Was that an intentional pairing, considering they follow right after one another in the album, or a bit of a happy accident?

IRyS:
I did NOT realize that until you pointed it out…! Wait, I actually really like that.

YEAH NO, THAT WAS TOTALLY INTENTIONAL! LET’S GO WITH THAT! :D

hT:
“HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars”

As most of us already know about your debut, that “||:” repeat sign has significant meaning to it.

Project: HOPE was your debut, and at the start of your debut stream you descended not once, not twice, but three times! It was there at the third repeat that your journey at hololive had finally begun.

Now that it’s here again in “HOPE ||: Beyond the Stars”, what does this repeat sign and the rest of the concert name mean to you?

IRyS:
The descending three times during my debut was honestly just a funny mistake on my part, so I actually wasn’t thinking about that when I came up with the concert title!

But the repeat sign itself—specifically the left repeat sign, which I’ve used a lot as IRyS—has always felt like a symbol of beginnings to me. In music, it marks the beginning of a section that you’ll eventually come back to, and I really liked what that represents.

I spent a lot of time going back and forth on the title for this concert. The concept of the live is ‘a magical night made of hope and miracles’ and I wanted the title to connect that idea with where IRyS began, while also looking toward everything that comes after.

So to me, the repeat sign represents both a beginning and the idea that this journey doesn’t end there. There will always be another beginning, another chapter, another time we get to come together like this. ‘Beyond the Stars’ is about looking toward everything that’s still ahead of us—wherever this journey of hope takes us next.

The title was also inspired by my 2025 Birthday Live “Hope Upon A Star”. I really liked this title, so for my first full-length solo concert, I wanted to take that idea and evolve it into something even bigger—almost like a powered-up version of “Hope Upon A Star”!
