Interview: Nagi on Amelia Watson, Art, and the hololive Community
Artists are one of the biggest sources of creativity and influence not only in the VTuber scene, but across other entertainment spaces as well, including video games, film, anime, and manga.
Over the years, we've seen many amazing artists make their mark in the community. Some dedicating their craft to hololive production as a whole, while others pour their passion into their oshis and kamioshis.
For our very first guest in this new Interview series, we’re excited to feature an incredibly talented artist, a pillar of the Amelia Watson community, and a long-time friend of ours. The one and only, Nagi (@Nagi_Nyaaa)!
Known for her distinctive chibi art and long-standing involvement in the Amelia Watson community, Nagi has become a familiar presence among the Teamates and Investigators. In this interview, we talk about her journey as a fan artist, her experiences within the hololive community, and moments that have stood out to her over the years.
hololive TODAY / hT:
Hi Nagi! Thank you so much for taking the time to interview with us at hololive TODAY. You’re actually our very first guest for this new Interview series, so we really appreciate it.
Nagi:
Thank you so much for having me! It’s my very first time being interviewed like this so I’m a little nervous but very happy and honored to be part of this!
hT:
To start things off, could you tell us a bit about yourself? When did you first become involved with hololive and the hololive community, and what initially drew you in?
Nagi:
So I’ve been a fan of idols for quite a long time now and that’s actually part of what made me fall deep into the Hololive rabbit hole in the first place! Before I even knew what Hololive was, I came across a clip of Sakura Miko and Kiryu Coco and I thought they were very interesting. It wasn't until a bit later that I realized that these individual Vtubers that Youtube has been recommending to me aren't just solo content creators, but they were also an idol group! Prior to knowing this, I never envisioned idols having video games as part of their main activities so I was very intrigued. Following that, in late 2020 I learned about Hololive having an English and an Indonesian branch as well, so knowing that this group based in Japan also has talents from other places around the world really solidified my role as a fan.
hT:
This may be obvious, but who in hololive is your oshi?
Nagi:
Right! My oshi in all of Hololive is Hololive English’s number one detective, Amelia Watson!

hT:
Give us your favorite stream and your favorite song that Ame has covered or released as an original song!
Nagi:
I’m super indecisive so I can’t just pick one favorite stream. If anything, all of Amelia’s VR streams have stood out the most to me. Every project she has directed showcases how creative, passionate, and dedicated she is to providing fun, top-tier content not just for her viewers, but to her and her friends in Hololive. To add on, the VR projects gave various fans the opportunity to showcase their own work and creativity as well! As for my favorite song sung by her, “Chiku Taku” has to be it! It is her very first and only official original solo song after all! I remember joining an Ame-themed VR world with other fans to celebrate the release and even though I didn’t talk, I still felt like I grew closer with the community that day. Not only that, I was able to witness Ame perform “Chiku Taku” in-person at Hololive English’s 1st concert in LA! I was very fired up doing the call and responses for that song. Truly unforgettable.

hT:
Back in 2022, you actually had the opportunity to attend a meet & greet with Ame. Could you tell us a bit about that experience?
Nagi:
Oh yes, I remember that very vividly. The meet & greet was lottery-based and everyone was able to choose up to, I believe, three or four talents to potentially win for. Little did you know you could put one talent multiple times, so I like to believe choosing Ame for all of them partially helped me in winning a spot for her meet & greet! The meet & greet though was a scary yet exciting experience! I remember jotting down a few general things to say on a notecard the night or two before and I would highly recommend others to do this too! The second I walked into the room and was greeted by Ame, my mind nearly went blank so the notecard was a life saver! Anyway, I had a specific goal in mind and that was to show Ame how much we as fans appreciate all that she did. So after showering her with compliments with how much we respected her hard work, I also ensured to bring up topics that she personally enjoys like making terrariums. I felt like I did accomplish my goal afterwards, but I also felt like that singular meet & greet played a major turning point in my position within the hololive community. Not only do I get noticed by my kami-oshi in various ways, but my feelings as a fan grew stronger, and my social bubble grew quite rapidly too!
hT:
Can you tell us about the kind of artwork you’ve created within the hololive community?
Nagi:
The type of illustrations that I put out are mainly chibi art. I’m not yet confident nor consistent at drawing full body anatomy, so I dedicate my drawings to a simple, quick, and cute art style! As for what I draw exactly, it’s about 95% related to Amelia Watson. I like to highlight how cute she is, so most of my drawings are based on her streams or just random scenarios in my head. Following that, I have also opened emote commissions a few times.
hT:
A long time ago, you once mentioned that you actually created your illustrations on your phone, sometimes using just your finger as a stylus! Could you tell us a bit about that process, and how you create your art now?
Nagi:
Yes! Almost all of my drawings that I’ve uploaded on X/Twitter were all done on my phone with my finger. I’ve been drawing that way since middle school, so it’s something that I’ve been very accustomed to. However, about a year ago, my beloved friends surprised me with a beautiful art tablet! It’s very fun using it but also very difficult to transition to from something else that I’ve been so used to. So I use the tablet to practice while I still depend on my phone and finger as my main way of putting out illustrations. I’m hoping to fully depend on the art tablet for my drawings one day though!

hT:
A couple years ago, Kiara added the "YLS" (short for "You little sh*t") emote to her membership emote list, made none other than by yours truly. Could you share a bit about how that whole situation came to be?
Nagi:
Yes! So it was pretty simple really. I had emote commissions open one time and one of the clients was a KFP fan. They commissioned me for 5 emotes of Kiara and if I recall correctly, it was mostly for their Kiara discord fan-server. I don’t usually draw Kiara so I had a lot of fun drawing their requests. Afterwards, the same person who commissioned me posted the emotes on X/Twitter and put Kiara’s art tag in it too, offering for Kiara to use them if she wants to. Of course, I was properly credited so I didn’t mind at all. I’m not exactly sure when Kiara added one of the emotes in her channel, but I was notified in discord about it and was very surprised! I just had to superchat her asap about how happy I was about it and then during a superchat reading stream, she said KFP was already making great use of it and asked KFP to call me a YLS in return as a thank you for the free emote!

hT:
What moments or interactions with the community have stood out to you the most? This could include concerts, expos, or fan-hosted or official events you've taken part in.
Nagi:
It’s definitely the preparation for the first Amelia Watson fan happi. One of my long-time dreams as an idol fan was to own a happi dedicated to my oshi, so when I saw some KFP fans announce a project to make a Kiara one, it ignited a flame inside me to push one for Ame. It was a first for me, so I gathered lots of help in organizing this project. From designing it, to garnering interests, to producing it, and to then distributing it on the day of Hololive English’s 1st Concert, I am forever grateful to everyone who helped me pull off this dream of mine. It was a bit of work for everyone, but it was a huge success!
hT:
What do you think makes the hololive community unique compared to other fandoms?
Nagi:
To me, one of the things that makes the Hololive community stand out compared to other fandoms is their overall etiquette towards the talents. I think it’s very nice that so many fans are able to respect and engage in the talent’s content without breaking their boundaries and interrupting the flow of their streams. I also really love how the community has a strong sense of unity. Whether it’s through fan games, fan meetups, or a giant screen in New York’s Time Square, the strong synergy and passion that shines through to make our talents happy is very heartwarming.

hT:
What are your current interests, both in and outside the hololive community?
Nagi:
It’s a little strange to admit, but I’ve been really hooked on playing Fortnite recently! Despite how a majority of people view the game, it’s very diverse in characters and features that you can’t help but enjoy! As for within the Hololive community, since Amelia Watson concluded her activities in Hololive, I am able to recently pick up into watching a lot more Hololive JP talents mostly through clips! I wanted to catch up on what I missed out on and learn more about them and maybe pick up on some words that I could use for when I travel to Japan!
hT:
Since Ame’s departure, have you been keeping an eye on any of the other holo EN talents?
Nagi:
Well, other than Ame, Nerissa and Gigi has been two EN members that I enjoy seeing or listening to but unfortunately I haven't been able to tune into their livestreams nowadays, so I've now fallen quite dependent on clips and timestamps that catches my eye or curiosity, regardless of which member it is about now. I think for the most part I can actually qualify to be listed as a "DD/Daredemo Daisuki" fan, meaning I support/love anyone or everyone (in Hololive)!

hT:
And for our final question, do you have a message you'd like to share with fans and the broader hololive community?
Nagi:
I want to thank all of my friends and followers for supporting me and liking my silly little drawings for all these years and I want us all to continue having lots of fun cheering and cherishing the hololive talents for as long as we can! Thank you so much!!!
hT:
That’s all we have for today, Nagi. Thank you very much again for taking the time to interview with us and for sharing your experiences in the hololive community!
